October Charity Walks

October Charity Walks

Sometimes it’s hard to get motivated to get active or it’s difficult to fit into your schedule. For those of you looking for a little motivation this month to get out and get fit, there are a few charity walks being held in the Myrtle Beach area to raise awareness and fundraise for great causes. There isn’t much better than getting healthy while helping others.

The annual Coastal 5K and Doggie Dash will be held this year on October 21st in the Market Common. The race will start at 7:30 am. This 5k features a loop course to take you around the Market Common and it finishes up at the Grand Park. For each age group, medals will be awarded to the top three finishers. If you have a furry friend you want to bring along, you can participate in the Doggie Dash, which takes place the same day and time as the Coastal 5K. The Doggie Dash is one mile long and all proceeds will go towards the Grand Strand Humane Society.

If you can’t make the Coastal 5K or the Doggie Dash, later that same day starting at 11:30 am the 2017 Grand Strand Buddy Walk will also be taking place in the Grand Park area across from the Market Commons. The Buddy Walk hopes to unite people towards a common cause in educating about autism and fundraising for such a great cause. Festival and walk registration begins at 11:30 am, and the actual walk will be from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Attendees can also enjoy the festival, which will feature inflatables, face painters, performers, food, and exhibits. Whether you or someone you know has been affected by autism, this is a great way to stay fit and support a wonderful cause.

The Annual Walk for the Animals will be taking place on October 22nd in Valor Park at the Market Common. From 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, you can expect to enjoy entertainment, contests, raffles, a micro-chipping clinic, pet adoptions, and more! This is a great opportunity for both you and your pets to get out and get some exercise. All proceeds from the Annual Walk for the Animals will go directly towards the Grand Strand Humane Society.

Another great cause to get out and walk for is the annual Out of the Darkness Walk, which will be taking place on October 14th. Participants will be walking throughout Broadway at the Beach for approximately 1.5 miles. This charity walk is hoping to raise awareness about the danger and effects of suicide and depression. The Out of the Darkness Walk is a wonderful way to get fit and to get active in your community.

When you’re planning out your fitness regimen this month, consider signing up for one of these charity walks and support a great cause! While you’re exercising to become a better version of yourself, you can also help make your city better as well.
